Ask Lauren

Lauren Kennedy

Email your questions to or comment below and I’ll give you a simple answer. No wine wank here my friend.

Want to know what wine to drink with duck? Why French wine is so damn confusing? Or what corked wine is? No problem, just ask me!

I’ll give you a short response (for those of you who want it in a nutshell) and a long answer (for those of you who are reading my blog on the train and need to kill half an hour).

Drink, drink, drink and ask, ask ask!

What is your view on Naked Wines Australia…? Is this really going to revolutionise the wine industry in Australia or is it just a clever marketing stunt and fad? Would you join to help support small aussie winemakers…?

    Dear Lauren,

I often find myself on the dance floor with a glass of red wine and then the inevitable happens… I spill the wine on my clothes! Why the heck is it so hard to get red wine out? I’d dance naked to avoid this situation, though it might get awkward.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Hi FTLOW,

I am in love with German Rieslings!
I would love to buy and support local, can you recommend a great local off-dry riesling?
Why does Germany rock in the riesling department?
Love your work by the way.

Fab question Heath!!! I totally get that. Not all people like sweet wine. You want to keep enjoying the vino but you don’t want to hold your nose and gulp down the sweet stuff. Blog post coming!

LAUREN I’m in a sticky situation!!!!

I really don’t like sweet wines, I like a more dry (like my personality) wines.

I was at a restaurant the other day and we had a degustation with matching wines.

It was lovely until dessert the wine was so sweet I couldn’t drink it.

Could you recommend something that goes with dessert that isn’t as sweet?

    Thank you

    Hi Lauren

I really love Pinot Noir, it’s my favourite tipple when it comes to wine! But why oh why does it have to be so expensive. It seems much more expensive than other red wine varieties. Could you please explain why?

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your question! This is perfect and one I will definitely answer on the blog shortly. One of the best girlfriends experiences the same thing with red wine. If I have too much red I get migraines! There is definitely a good reason for it and ways you can avoid the hot rash. Stay posted…

Wouldn’t it be nice to pop the Dom with every glass of champagne. But like you Shan, I can’t afford to do that either! Great question! I’ll get onto answering this one. Thanks 🙂

  14. Hello Lauren,

One of my favourite things in life is a good glass of wine; recently I have noticed that with some wines I develop almost a hot rash after even one glass. I have spoken to some of my friends about it and apparently they experience the same? Is this due to an ingredient in the wine, and if yes is there a brand that I can go to avoid having this happen?

I feel silly asking, but here it goes –

    Is wine vegan?

    Hi Lauren,

I love champagne but have no idea what to look for in a good drop? Does the most expensive = the best ? I’m saving at the moment and can’t afford to always pop the Dom… What do you suggest ??

    Thanks !
